Elevated Levels of Sargassum Expected in June 2024!

Sargassum’s arrival in Jamaican waters has been a bit later than normal this year.

June 2024 projections by the Jamaican Sargassum Early Advisory System (JSEAS) indicate that we will see an uptick in sargassum arrival which will negatively impact coastal users.

JSEAS, developed by The Mona GeoInformatics Institute (MGI) and The University of Southampton (UoS), is the first early advisory system that combines advances in Earth Observation and Machine learning with high-resolution local geospatial data to provide monthly predictions for the floating, beaching, and impact of sargassum on stakeholders at a community level.

We encourage you to visit the site, subscribe, and disseminate alert details to your members so they can be aware of the threat.
