Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Training, Sint Maarten
MGI supported the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment, and Infrastructure (VROMI) and its project partners in building national capacity for the sustainable management of Sint Maarten’s marine and coastal environment. As part of the RESEMBID-funded Project CORENA, MGI played a central role in strengthening GIS capabilities to support evidence-based environmental stewardship.
Our team led the design, development, and delivery of tailored GIS training programs focused on data management, spatial and temporal analysis, and advanced GIS applications relevant to coastal resilience. We also assisted in establishing data protocols and frameworks to enhance GIS governance and ensure consistency in geospatial data use across agencies.
Through close collaboration with government stakeholders and decision-makers, MGI facilitated greater institutional integration and knowledge sharing, helping to break down silos among management authorities. The project empowered local personnel to apply GIS as a decision-support tool for sustainable development and climate resilience planning, thereby contributing to the long-term protection of Sint Maarten’s coastal and marine resources.
