Coastal Erosion Assessment of Susceptible Shoreline in Negril, Jamaica
Coastal Erosion Assessment of Susceptible Shoreline in Negril, Jamaica
MGI supported a targeted initiative in Negril, Jamaica focused on increasing awareness of shoreline erosion risks and strengthening the disaster risk management capacity of local sectors that rely heavily on the coastal environment. The project aimed to directly benefit industries such as tourism, fishing, and small-scale coastal enterprises, which are vital to livelihoods in the area.
As part of our involvement, MGI provided technical expertise in the monitoring and analysis of shoreline changes through drone technologies, developed accessible information products, and facilitated stakeholder engagement to ensure that erosion-related data was both relevant and actionable. We also contributed to community outreach and capacity-building activities designed to empower vulnerable groups with the knowledge needed to plan more effectively for climate-related coastal hazards.
By equipping local actors with a clearer understanding of coastal vulnerability, the project enhanced Negril’s overall resilience and supported more sustainable planning and livelihood protection in the face of ongoing shoreline change.
