Classification of Fish Sanctuaries – Habitat Mapping
Classification of Fish Sanctuaries – Habitat Mapping
Nature: Spatial analysis; remote sensing
The purpose of this consultancy was to equip the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries with the necessary tools to determine the spatial distribution of the different eco-system components within the fish sanctuaries to aid in the research, evaluation and management of those areas. MIL had provided satellite imagery for each named sanctuary to carry out remote sensing to form the basic habitat classification. From the output of the remote sensing, maps were generated to display the different classifications from each sanctuary. After which training in carrying out the remote sensing and generating the maps was done. Services: Benthic habitat classification of up to 8 marine habitats; training in GIS and remote sensing techniques; training development and delivery.
