Mona GeoInformatics Institute on July 26, 2023 received the COVID-19: Greatest Impact on Policy Award at Principal’s Award Ceremony at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
MGI at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus was involved in several capacities with respect to the response to the COVID-19 crisis and public and private sector entities, applying its vast GIS database to advise various entities on their risks and how to plan their activities accordingly.
There were 3 specific COVID-19-related areas in which MGI provided support during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Jamaica as outlined:
1. The Schools Reopening Initiative. A Risk Analysis of Jamaica Schools to Guide COVID-19 Re-opening plans by the Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY).
2. The COVID-19 Vulnerability Model.
3. MGI’s Contribution to PSOJ’s COVID-19 Response Fund
