At the Mona Geoinformatics Institute (MGI), we have built one of the most advanced and trusted drone operations in the Caribbean region. Through our dedicated MonaUAV division, MGI delivers premium-quality aerial imagery, video production, 3D models, and mapping services tailored to the unique needs of our clients. With over 5,000 hours of drone flight operations conducted in the last five years, our expertise spans diverse industries including education, agriculture, infrastructure, disaster response, and environmental management.
Industry-Leading Drone Services
MGI’s expert drone operators are equipped with cutting-edge technology, including DJI drones and EMLID high-precision RTK GNSS receivers, ensuring that our outputs meet the highest standards of accuracy and detail. Beyond stunning aerial videos, we specialize in imagery analysis, where drone data is transformed into actionable intelligence for decision-making. By pairing these services with our robust GIS capabilities, MGI provides clients with a unique competitive advantage, combining visual insights with spatial intelligence.
Training the Next Generation of Drone Experts
As a recognized leader in drone training across the Caribbean, MGI has delivered hands-on drone training to participants as young as 5 years old and as experienced as over 50 years old. Working closely with the Mona Association of Science Teachers (MAST) and the Faculty of Science and Technology at UWI Mona, we have equipped students, professionals, and organizations with the skills needed to thrive in this growing field.
Organizations trained by MGI have spanned schools, universities, corporate entities, and government agencies, ensuring broad impact across sectors. A unique feature of our training is the integration of GeoAI and drone modules, preparing participants not just to fly drones, but to harness data for advanced analysis and problem-solving.
Safe and Responsible Drone Operations
All of MGI’s drone flights are conducted in partnership with the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) to secure the necessary flying permits. These permits are critical not only for safety and compliance with aviation laws, but also for ensuring that all operations are conducted in line with international standards of airspace management.
Expanding Beyond Drones
In addition to our drone services, MGI partners with GeoOrbis, a leading regional provider of satellite imagery. This collaboration allows us to combine high-resolution satellite data with drone-captured imagery and GIS analysis, delivering a comprehensive suite of geospatial solutions for clients across the Caribbean.
Driving the Future of Drone Technology in the Caribbean
Led by Projects Manager Darren Fletcher, the MonaUAV team continues to push the boundaries of innovation, combining the best equipment, highly skilled operators, and powerful data analysis tools. From aerial videography and high-precision mapping to drone education and GeoAI integration, MGI remains at the forefront of drone technology in the region.
At MGI, we don’t just fly drones, we aim to empower communities, support industries, and shape the future of geospatial intelligence across the Caribbean.
