On August 27, 2025, the Mona GeoInformatics Institute (MGI) completed the first stage of the Cyber Bullying and Cyber Security programme with SOS Children’s Villages Jamaica. The final workshops for this phase of the project were held at Spot Valley High School in St. James, Jamaica, targeting students from local high schools and communities in the area.
During the programme the MGI team delivered impactful sessions introducing at-risk youth to critical topics such as the Digital World, Social Media Safety, Cyberbullying and Cybersecurity, with added focus on developing essential life skills like critical thinking, time management, and problem-solving. A critical component of the programme was to focus on some of the career areas that participants can focus on in the technology era.
MGI is proud to contribute to the YouthRISE initiative, a transformative three-year program dedicated to creating brighter opportunities for at-risk youth in Jamaica and Mexico. Backed by Scotiabank’s ScotiaRISE funding, this effort focuses on empowering young people facing significant challenges, including those without parental care, living in deep poverty, enduring abuse or neglect, or navigating life as part of marginalized communities, such as youth with special needs.
MGI continues to harness its expertise to uplift and empower the most vulnerable communities across our region. In the coming months, we will be sharing new initiatives and impactful stories, stay tuned and journey with us as we make a difference.
